Transferring Ownership
Sharing keeps you in charge; transferring hands the item over. When a matter changes hands — a colleague takes over the file, someone goes on leave, a team re-organises — transfer ownership so the right person controls the work item from then on.
What transfer does
- The recipient becomes the item's owner: they can manage collaborators, change roles, transfer it again, and delete it.
- You stay on as an editor — you keep full working access, you just no longer control it.
- Existing collaborators and their roles are untouched.
- The new owner is notified in-app and by email, with a link that opens the item.
Transferring an item
- Open the item and click the transfer control next to the Share button in the session header (owner only) — or choose Transfer ownership from the item's ⋯ menu in the history panel.
- Pick the organisation member who should own the item.
- Confirm the transfer.
The transfer takes effect immediately. Like sharing, transfer works on whole items — for a multi-document review or translation run, the entire run changes hands as one unit.
Transfers are not undone by Judicio
Only the current owner can transfer an item. If you transfer to a colleague and need it back, they must transfer it back to you — as the previous owner you keep editor access, but not control. Choose the new owner deliberately.
When to transfer vs. share
| Situation | Use |
|---|---|
| A colleague should contribute to your work | Share as Editor |
| A partner or client-facing lawyer needs to read and export results | Share as Viewer |
| The matter (and its work product) now belongs to someone else | Transfer ownership |
| You are leaving the team or handing over a caseload | Transfer ownership of the relevant items |
