Document Review FAQ
Answers to the most commonly asked questions about Document Review.
File and format questions
What file formats does Document Review support?
Document Review supports the following formats:
- PDF -- Including scanned PDFs (processed with OCR)
- DOCX -- Microsoft Word documents (2007 and later)
- DOC -- Legacy Microsoft Word documents
For best results, use native digital PDFs or DOCX files. Scanned PDFs work but may take longer to process due to OCR and may produce less precise text extraction.
What is the maximum file size?
Individual files can be up to 200 MB. If you have very large files, consider splitting them into smaller documents before uploading.
How many files can I review at once?
You can review multiple files at once. Each file is processed individually against your configured checks, and results are presented together in a unified findings view.
For a very large document set, split the work across multiple batch reviews. You can use the same template across batches for consistent results.
What types of legal documents work best?
Document Review works well with virtually any legal document, including:
- Contracts and agreements (NDAs, SaaS agreements, employment contracts, leases)
- Corporate documents (shareholder agreements, articles of association)
- Regulatory filings and compliance documents
- Policies and procedures
- Legal correspondence and memoranda
- Transaction documents (SPAs, loan agreements, security documents)
The AI adapts its analysis based on the document type it detects and the checks you configure.
Can I review non-English documents?
Document Review currently works best with English-language documents. Documents in other languages may produce less accurate results. If you need to review non-English documents, consider using Judicio's Translation feature first to obtain an English version.
Credit and pricing questions
How are credits calculated for Document Review?
Credit costs are based on:
- Number of files in the batch
- Page count of each file
- Number of compliance checks configured
- Analysis mode -- Deep mode costs more than Concise mode because it processes the entire document rather than searching for relevant sections
Credit estimate before you start
Judicio always shows you a credit estimate before processing begins. You can see the exact cost, compare Concise vs. Deep mode pricing, and confirm you have sufficient credits before committing.
What is the difference between Concise and Deep mode?
| Concise Mode | Deep Mode | |
|---|---|---|
| How it works | Searches for relevant document sections and analyzes those | Processes every section of the document |
| Speed | Faster | Slower |
| Credit cost | Lower | Higher |
| Best for | Standard contract reviews, known document types | Comprehensive due diligence, complex or unusual documents |
Concise mode is the default and is sufficient for most reviews. Use Deep mode when you need exhaustive coverage and cannot afford to miss anything.
Do exports cost additional credits?
No. Exporting is included in the cost of the review. You can export the same file in multiple formats (Tracked Changes, Redline PDF, Clean Document, Analysis Report) without additional credit charges.
What happens if I do not have enough credits?
The credit estimate screen will show that you have insufficient credits and prevent you from starting the review. You can reduce the cost by:
- Removing files from the batch
- Reducing the number of checks
- Switching from Deep to Concise mode
- Purchasing additional credits from the Account & Billing page
Processing and performance questions
How long does a review take?
Processing time depends on file size, page count, number of checks, and analysis mode. As a rough guide:
| Scenario | Approximate time |
|---|---|
| Single file, 10 pages, 5 checks, Concise | 1-2 minutes |
| Single file, 50 pages, 10 checks, Concise | 3-5 minutes |
| Single file, 50 pages, 10 checks, Deep | 5-10 minutes |
| 5 files, 200 total pages, 8 checks, Concise | 8-15 minutes |
These are estimates. Actual times vary based on document complexity and current system load.
Can I navigate away while processing?
Yes. Processing continues in the background. You can work on other tasks in Judicio or close the browser tab entirely. When you come back, navigate to Document Review and open your review to see the results.
What happens if processing fails?
If a review fails for any reason:
- You will see a clear error message explaining what went wrong
- You can retry the review with one click -- Judicio preserves your configuration
- Credits are not charged for failed reviews
- If a specific file in a batch fails, other files continue processing normally
Is there real-time progress tracking?
Yes. While a review is processing, you see a live progress stream showing:
- Overall completion percentage
- Which file is currently being analyzed
- The current processing stage
- Individual progress per file in batch reviews
Results and findings questions
Can I edit findings after completing a review?
Yes. You can resolve, flag, undo, and re-resolve findings at any time. The findings view remains fully interactive until you are satisfied with the results.
Are findings saved permanently?
Yes. All reviews and their findings are saved in your review history. You can access past reviews from the Document Review history page, re-examine findings, and re-export documents at any time.
Can I compare findings across multiple reviews?
Each review produces its own independent set of findings. To compare the same document against different criteria, run separate reviews with different check configurations. The Review Matrix feature is designed specifically for cross-document comparison if that better suits your needs.
How accurate are the AI findings?
Judicio's AI is trained on legal documents and produces high-quality analysis, but it is a tool to augment -- not replace -- professional legal judgment. We recommend:
- Always reviewing AI-generated findings before acting on them
- Spot-checking AI Fix suggestions before applying them
- Using Flag to escalate findings you are unsure about
- Treating the AI as a thorough first-pass reviewer whose work you verify
Privacy and security questions
Is my document data secure?
Yes. Judicio is built with enterprise-grade security:
- All documents are encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest (AES-256)
- Documents are stored in isolated, access-controlled cloud storage
- AI processing uses secure, audited infrastructure
- No document data is used to train AI models
Who can see my reviews?
Reviews are scoped to your organization. Only members of your organization who have access to the relevant project can see your reviews and findings. Organization admins can manage access and permissions.
Can I delete my documents and reviews?
Yes. You can delete individual documents from your File Library and individual reviews from your review history. Deleted data is permanently removed from Judicio's systems.
Troubleshooting
My document is not being parsed correctly
If text extraction produces unexpected results:
- Ensure your PDF is not a scanned image -- native digital PDFs produce better results
- Check that your DOCX file is not password-protected
- Try re-uploading the file if it was corrupted during the initial upload
- For scanned documents, ensure the scan quality is high (300 DPI or above recommended)
The AI missed an issue I expected it to catch
If the AI did not flag something you expected:
- Check your compliance checks -- did you include a check that covers this issue?
- Review your acceptable/fallback/unacceptable positions -- the AI uses these to determine what to flag
- Try Deep mode instead of Concise mode for more thorough coverage
- Use Custom mode with a specific query about the issue you are looking for
Export is taking a long time
Export processing time depends on document size, number of findings, and the export format. Tracked Changes and Redline PDF exports involve regenerating the document with markup, which can take longer for large files. If an export seems stuck, try refreshing the page -- the export continues in the background.
